River Description
Description:
Short and sweet moderate whitewater through a beautful canyon.
From the braided put-in, the river eventually narrows and begins to meander through a walled-in canyon local boaters call the 'Lower Canyon.' Seculded from the highway, the rapids incude a multitude of on the fly play spots, eddy-hopping, and consistently interesting whitewater.
Put-in:
North of Valdez on the Richardson highway at mile 44.1. Alternatively, it's easy to continue downstream from a run on the Upper section floating the braided portion of river between the two canyons.
Take-out:
Take-out on river left at Stuart Creek after exiting the canyon.
