River Description

Put-in at Alder Brook Road (as given by coordinates below) or continue upstream to Olmsteadville on Minerva Stream (43.7730, -73.9322) and check possibility of adding a bit to the run. (Makes a 6 mile run at 54FPM average.)

I will add more later but right now I just wanted to give a warning that about half way down the river is an 8 foot waterfall that, although runnable in itself, is not runnable because just after the waterfall the river goes underground for about 100 yards.

Please be careful if you choose to travel this river because if you get too close to the falls you WILL die. You will know that you are getting close to the falls if you hear the roar and notice a sharp bend to the right. Portage is on the right.

Just ran this yesterday 4/9/17 in a 4 man raft. The Schroon was at 7.2ft and the trout was barely runnable in our raft. There is one very short but technical hit before the portage, mostly flat water. The falls look really fun but I have not hit them due to the water going underground shortly after. There is one more fun hit after the portage, it's a smaller set of falls that spans the whole river. The river left line is more difficult with a light smaller run out. After this feature it's all just Class II until the take out with the exception of one random drop that also spans the whole river. It will sneak up on you, so keep an eye out for it. Overall conclusion, this run is only worth it a few days out of the year when the water is really high. A long and difficult portage, but a couple of fun hits. If you enjoy exploring then you will like this trip, if you want long runs of whitewater this one is not worth it.

A nice section of paddling to start the trip off

These are the falls that seem runnable but the river goes underground shortly afterwards.
