Big Sandy River, Tug Fork

2. Wharncliffe to Devon

Put in at Wharncliffe on may 21, 2022. The water was at 3.51. Pretty much the lowest you can get down it without getting stuck. At the put in there is a big beach area and plenty of parking. We paddled up stream around the island and went down the left side of the river because the right was very low. The first half of this run was pretty fun. Easy to read rapids that were all probably class one at this level of flow. At a high flow I think there are several that would turn into class 2. There were a couple drops, a few surf spot, and plent of places that would be good for breaks.

the second half of this run turns into flat water. It was a grind!

the river is very pretty but there is a lot of trash. Very secluded. Which brings me to the shuttle. The road between the put in and take is a gravel road the entire length of the river. In a car, this road take over an hour to drive. A truck is almost a must.

I've been told the section above this section is a lot more fun with more rapids. All in all it was a good introduction into whitewater.

I'll have a video in a day or so. I'll post a link
