River Description
The playspot know as 'The Slab' and 'Eternity Hole' can be found in this stretch below the reservoir.
From Linwood:
The Slab and Eternity, both are on the East Fork of the Tuck. To get there from Waynesville, take highway 74 west to exit 85 towards Sylva. Travel a mile or so, to the second traffic light. Take a left onto route 107 towards Cullohwee. Travel for about 10 - 15 miles or so on 107. Just after an Exxon station on your left you will cross over the East Fork of the Tuck. Turn left immediately after onto Shook Cove road. Travel about 2 miles, you will start going up hill and around a few sharp turns.
Duke Energy has built a put in and takeout parking for this stretch on the left hand side of the road. The Slab is downstream about 50 yards from the putin ramp. There is a well worn path down the hill directly above the slab. (It is a bit of a rock scramble with a boat, I recommend using the ramp that Duke built) The other hole, Eternity is down stream about an eighth of a mile, a lot of people run down to Eternity and just walk back to the car up the street. The East Fork of the Tuck is dam controlled, but runs most days especially in the time when the Nanty is off.
The Phone number to call is 866-332-5253, listen for the report on the East Fork and that will tell you when it will be running. You can also go online to https://lakes.duke-energy.com/index.html#/flow click the dropdown box and select 'Nantahala/Tuckasegee' and it will show you a rotating three day schedule of releases. Be warned, Duke occasionally changes the schedule last minute which could lead to skunking.
River Features
Put In
The Slab
Very nice playwave. Great for front surfing and flat spins.
Eternity Hole
WCU students built this playspot so they didn't have to drive over to Nantahala to play. Local paddlers keep both playspots in good condition. Easy park and play area with adequate parking. Great for any playboat moves!

The phone number does not work for the release schedule. Like the last person asked, is the nanty/east fork the correct release schedule online for this spot? Bueller.....?
The phone number for release reports does not work? Does this river release on the nanty? I can't find the release on dukes website
Does the dam always release really early in the morning? Every time I've checked it starts between 2 and 3am. Anyone recommend a good hotel in Cullowee? Also, this appears to be the new release schedule.

i heard that eternity washed out in the recent flood? anyone confirm this?
Just a correction for AW it takes about 15-20 min for the water to reach the Slab Hole
Not very good video, but it will give you an idea of what is there
Nantahala Power posts the generation schedule for three days (though myself and others have noticed they are not 100% accurate)

Another note is that USGS has provided a new gauge about a mile from Eternity.
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nc/nwis/uv/?site\_no=03508050&PARAmeter\_cd=00065,00060
The guages is within 1 hour from the dam.
Eternity can be a little tricky to figure out, but once you do it is a blast
Having a great day on the East Fork
