For those who would like to just play at the rapid at Bloomery, a rapid which can be fun when the water is up, there is a power company launch site just above (accessed by Millville Rd), on river left, and a state access ramp on right (accessed by Hostler Rd), about quarter mile below the rapid.
Regarding the dam portage, signage consists only of a big sign saying portage here and an arrow pointing up hill. If water is low, then look forward to a walk of at about a half mile to the access below the power plant. Otherwise, just walk a few yards up hill from the take-out, cross the headgate of the intake canal, descend about 20 steps and then some rip rap (watch for broken glass) to the foot of the dam.
