Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportSurfing is pretty fun still at 2300cfs although catching the top wave/hole and bottom one was just on the fly. The middle hole is pretty powerful/retentive in the meat of it, but if you keep to the river left side of it you can have a really nice surf with easy eddy access!
Three features in the Ogden WWP. The top wave has two surfable foam piles and you can get from one to another. The eddy is busy with powerful currents and it is difficult to get on the top wave at this level cause the rocks forming the rive right eddy are under water and you hit them with your paddle. A little longer kayak would help a bunch. The second feature is great and it's big with easy eddy access on both sides. The third wave is nice and better in a little faster kayak. Easy to miss the takeout at this level, but you can walk back from either side of the park. Parking is free and you can see you car while you're playing.
Surfing is really good at this level! The upper feature is forming a wave which is bouncy/good for shorter boats on surfer's right and glossy/fast for longer boats on surfer's left. Still good eddy access from either side, but much easier to catch in a short boat from the middle eddy. The lower wave is also looking pretty good, but I didn't spend much time on it. Just keep your eyes open for wood, lots of debris was floating down the river including some pretty big branches due to the higher water level.
Flows of 203 CFS
The new features at the park are still a test in progress. What I mean is since it has opened I can only say I have been on there with low flows, the highest being 206 back in January 2022.
I was on there again today at 203, now I am not the greatest playboater but this is my thoughts. The first feature I can get on and surf and it holds me in the pocket really well, The issue I have at this flow is my bow and paddle hit the concret ramp as I'm surfing. I think this one will be so much better with more water.
The second feature, This one is pretty retentive. I get in there and it wants to side surf me. its easy to get out of at this flow, will be interested to see how it shapes with more.
The third feature is my favorite at this level. The water comes down the ramp very green and in a fast boat (Axiom, Rewind) I can stay on the green wave. Right behind the green wave is a small hole that my Jitsu will hold in, its pretty mush a front surf as I get spit out on a attempt of a flat spin.
All of the pools are deep enough to roll, but they are not super deep. I havent hit my head but the paddle blade has hit the bottom on occasional rolls.
Look forward to seeing these features with more water.
