Whitewater Access Alert! Bad news. WaveOSaurus is now patrolled by Amtrak Police (at least 5 days/wk) who kicked us off the river today, citing the ability to ticket us for crossing the RR tracks. The new Amtrak Vermonter now passes by at at high speed '60-80 mph' (per officer) presenting increased danger to pedestrians. American Whitewater has been advised; will follow up. Together with changes instituted by the Trustees of Reservations, we have now lost access to, arguably, Massachusetts' best wave and best waterfalls. Please help American Whitewater negotiate improved access for whitewater paddlers.
Per inquiries: there is no access from the east bank because it's all private and a steep embankment. Possible access from upstream is 3+ miles and downstream is 2 miles to the Holyoke Dam(!) area, both of which are 1-way trips, no going back. So access is crucial at this location.
