Canal Creek

This section is a worthwhile addition to a trip on Quartzville Creek for boaters wanting to see something different.

Starting at the bridge near the confluence with Elk Creek, this run is 2.5 miles of splashy class III-IV slides and boulder gardens all the way to its terminus upon entering Quartzville Creek.  There are 3 larger rapids along the way, one is a ten foot tall slide that is difficult to scout when the flows are up.  Running this slide center left, erring to the left avoids a large hole that becomes stronger as flows increase.  Below here are more rapids that build to two larger boulder gardens at the end.

The run can hold plenty of water, 5,000 cfs in Quartzville is not too much.  Because of the bedrock slides on the run, low water trips might be undesirable.

The 1 mile section above the confluence with Elk Creek has one solid class V rapid that can be portaged, some other interesting ledgey rapids and a few wood portages.
