River Description
The Rivière Gens de Terre (translation: 'People of the Land') flows from the Cabonga Reservoir into the Gens de Terre Bay of the Baskatong Reservoir north of Maniwaki. The view is breathtaking with 80' cliffs on both sides.
This section of the river between the Wapus River and the iron bridge downstream has continuous class II-V whitewater. The flow of the river depends on the water level management in the Cabonga Reservoir. This is a similar-sized river to the Gatineau downstream, and runs when the Gatineau is medium or high. It's a big-water class IV-V run best done as a two day trip.
Note that the GPS coordinates on the map are a guess as to the actual put-in/take-out locations.. Seek local information before replying on them. Individuals on a recent trip reported at least one bridge washed out resulting in them having to put in on the Wapus River and paddle flatwater down to the Gens de Terre
