Staton's Creek
Staton's Falls to Pedlar River
Alerts
Log in to add an alert5/15/2012: There are at least three logs sticking into the pool at the base of 'Johnny Wise's Hole' (the 12'+ vertical falls). These logs appear to be criss-crossing underwater, or nearly so. The cherry birch (?) log on the right bank extends more than a paddle's length underwater. I am told that there may also be a big rootball in there underwater. We ran the drop today, but in hindsight it is a little sketchy with all this wood in there. This is not an easy drop to land flat in - most folks sub out at least a little - so the risk of hitting some of this wood is pretty real. Heads up. There were also two wood portages early in the run, in the drops below Chunderslide.
March, 2011: There is of course wood in several places of the creek, including in the warm-up stuff below Chunderslide, and in Duck & Run (portage). But there is a piece in the runout of Log Flume that could be especially ugly for a swimmer (i've seen people swim through here. Ahem...). I posted a pic here: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Photo/detail/photoid/878081/
I wanted to mention it since the log might not be visible at higher water. It is wedged in the very-undercut mossy rock behind the boater in this pic.
