Great Miami
b) 50 Hole (Cleves)
Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportOK, we got the tree cut up and after much effort got it headed past the eddy line back into the pool and headed downstream. It was awesome today at 640 or so, good for surfing, front and back and not wicked whirlpools downstream. Still a small hole but very adequate for some fun and as the H2O level has been down for some time the water quality is not bad. Lots of fish jumping.
Tree down in the hole, requires chain saw work to move as it is still attached at the trunk.
I stopped by Fifty Hole yesterday evening for a little Park and Play. Flow was around 700 cfs, so the 'Hole' should have been rockin'. I was extremely disappointed with what I saw. What used to be a playable hole was nothing more than a mild surf wave. Whatever formed the pourover must have been pushed downstream. Also, the eddy to the right is filling in with silt. It's too shallow to practice rolls (like you'd want to) near the bank. Hopefully, the hole will come back, but for now it's not worth the trip unless you're really desperate to paddle in funky water. I'm still wondering what those huge clumps of brown foam are that are trapped in the eddy.
tree down just pass the hole look out.
This is a good place to go and get a work out if you are stuck in town and everything else is dry.
This is a fun play spot. The suggested highest level is 1200, but 1600 is a good level for some play. The video doesn't do the hole much justice. It's actually a lot more fun than it looks. A few recently cut trees make the eddy on river right a bit of a nuisance, but it's not too bad.
