River Description

This run starts roughly from the Nevada border and ends at the western edge of Reno where you can continue on downstream on the town run.

If combined with the two previous runs, packrafters can do a train shuttle on Amtrak!

There is not much at all in the way of public land or even sandbars to camp on in this section.

Additional Information

The Truckee Meadows Water Authority publishes a river recreation map. Download the pdf from the map link to the right or you can pick one up at their offices in town. Call 775-834-8000 or visit the office at 1155 Corporate Blvd. in Reno.

1100 CFS makes for a great time late in Spring this 2024 - Paul Cwalina

I had a great time. Water temps were 56-57F but a 2/3 full suit did me well. I am a whitewater boarder ( YouTube Short of me on 6/19/24) So you can tell even at 100 CFS the water was a bit low for me.

However, I just jumped in at Verdi, and had a great time! I love being able to float to N. Virginia Street were I can just get out and walk back to my apartment.

Great time! Plenty of options for lines with this type of flow, and water temps were great with a 3/2!

If you want another video I made yesterday you can check out this one as well.

midsummer overnighter - Dup Crosson

Ran this section as part of a three day, two night overnighter [partially] with fellow packrafters Sami Feld and Andy Rich and some innertubers. This shuttle was fun – I staged a bike at the Amtrak station in Truckee on my way to park my car at the put-in, Silver Creek. I then paddled all the way to Reno, getting a Lyft to the Amtrak station, training back to Truckee, and biking back to Silver Creek.

The funnest sections are near the town of Truckee and near Floriston for sure – we portaged Jaws but will get after it next time!

400cfs is too low in my opinion– there was a lot of scraping.

I've never run this from the Crystal Peak Park, but putting in at River Bend, AKA Verdi Dam can be fun. I would say 500 is the minimum, below that its runnable in a hardshell to about 350, but will not be very fun. total gorilla boating and scrape

THE VERDI RUN - Just 20 minutes west of Reno, the Verdi offers 2 1/2 hours of Class II-III white water excitement with such rapids as 'Gorilla Falls' and 'Powerhouse.' You pass by the site of the Great Train Robbery on this river run. Its closeness to Reno makes it an easy outing for those vacationing there
