River Description

Gauge Info from New York Exposed: The Whitewater State, Vol. 2.

Drive up West River Road along the West Branch of the Sacandaga. The first reasonably sized creek you cross is Jimmy Creek, about thirty feet upstream of its confluence. The water level is purely visual, if the section upstream from the bridge looks good, start heading upstream on the faint trail on the river left bank. If it looks low, County Line Creek and Square Falls Gorge (East Sac) are good choices. If it looks high, you could probably kill an hour with a high-water run on the East Sac below Griffin Gorge or head over to Georgia Brook for a stomping high-water run, and come back to Jimmy Creek.

Once you start hiking up, pay close attention to location of wood and a few nasty looking rocks about 1/4-1/2 mile up, with the knowledge that you'll get there much faster than you thought and the wood may shift by the time you get back down. About 3/4 of a mile is a large off vertical falls that looked pretty burly and possibly shallow. We put in just below the falls, but it appeared that the trail and gradient continued upstream. In the whole 3/4 of a mile there are just a handful of eddies and no large drops, creating a very aerobic section of whitewater. If you enjoyed, catch your breath and go do it again. Then go check out Dunning Brook, Georgia Brook, or numerous other creeking opportunities within half an hour.

The whole run from the big drop is basically like this. Very few eddies and a little wood thrown in definately give a workout.
