River Description

We are not sure of a proper public launch yet for this stretch, though the takeout has good access.

Directions to putin and takeout

To reach the putin from Wears Valley, travel a few miles northeast on US 321 until the quiet pastoral brook is encountered on the right. Find a place to putin that looks public.

To the takeout, simply drive 1-2 miles down the road until you cross the stream, putting it on the left side of the road. There are a couple of pull-offs on the left for a good takeout.

Run Description:

The run starts by dropping over various small ledgy cascades, and class 2 rapids. It is a pretty gorge, but stay in your boat, due to the many tracts of private property that lace the banks. Scouting may be an issue due to the private property.

When one passes under a bridge connecting a log cabin community to 321, be ready for things to step up a little bit. Right below is a nice class 3 cascade, with several more following suit at a moderate pace. Several hundred yards down there is a dam which is possibly a portage, or can be run. Check it out on shuttle to decide what you think. Below here is a 6-8 foot ledge with a scrapey approach and a shallow landing. It can also be scouted before the run by pulling off at the touristy spot right before the road crosses the creek (when heading NE on 321). This is the last significant drop.

After passing under the 321 bridge, take out somewhere that looks decent, and carry up the 20 foot enbankment to your car.
