Debris removal in ShoshoneHattie Johnson
Apr 15, 2022

For the week of April 18, the Shoshone ramp (Exit 123) will be open, however, water recreation users should be aware of work occurring in the river channel, Monday through Friday. Due to increased water flows and the location of work being done, river users in the canyon should be alert and aware of increased debris in the river
Weather permitting, IHC Scott crews will have wrapped up work at Deadman Gulch and will be moving equipment down river to Maneater with work commencing there for the week. An eastbound right lane closure will be in place from Mile Point 121-122 during this phase of work.

Updated August 2022 Conditions Report (overwrote 9/21 report)Preston Havill
Sep 23, 2021

UPDATED: (8/24/2022)

Things are largely, and surprisingly, almost back to normal. With almost everything except Baptismal (Entrance, 1st Rapid) being very similar to the pre-rockslides 2020/21 Shoshone. Guides and Agencies have recently done more wood removal, and the large catastrophic wood hazards at the top left of the Wall, and the left slot at Tombstone are completely gone at the time of this post.

The Entrance Rapid now has the largest single breaking wave of any rapid at the normal post runoff, pre-fall/winter flows of ~1200-1600 cfs. There is a new, shallow and sharp rock bar at the end of this wave train, before the House Rock. Other than Entrance, the rapids run almost the same as before now, and the run is still the same difficulty. Everything has really cleaned up and is much safer again than it was in the months following the rockslides. However, take caution as there are many new sleeper rocks just below the surface, in otherwise deep pools, where flipping and rolling was previously OK everywhere. The new rocks are sharp and are hard on rubber and plastic.

Check the local boater groups for conditions updates, and also the current state of affairs with Canyon access, closures, and other info that is still changing frequently. And please respect, thank, and congratulate all the guides, agencies, nonprofits, and individuals who came together and continue to come together to keep water flowing and boater access on Shoshone safe and guaranteed.
