River Description
Upper Gore Creek is a beautiful, mellow run that contours through the Vail golf course and holds many gentle play holes that come as a result of manmade fish dams. This run is not only good for playboaters looking for a beautiful spot to rodeo, but also for beginner kayakers who are working on building skills and confidence on the river. Combine this run with Lower Gore Creek for more consistent III/IV action.
Keep in mind there are a series of low hanging pipes to be avoided on this run that comes up 1/8 mile after the second intermountain bridge after the park. The first black pipe should be portaged, but keep in mind this portage goes over private property so be swift and respectful. The next pipe is white and has to be rolled under during high water.
To access upper Gore Creek, take the east vail exit off I-70 where you see the parking lot by the frontage road. The takeout is at the Interfaith Chapel on Vail road, which heads directly to the creek from the roundabout off the Main Vail exit.
Hike-in from the Gore Creek trailhead in East Vail approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Watch for wood!
Lat/longitude coords, especially of the putin, are very approximate, from online maps.
