This is an excellent dam released river that provides practice for more technical water later in the season. Multiple meanders require good lateral positioning to avoid willow and cottonwood sweepers along with lateral waves against cliffs and banks. There are a few drops including a non portagable 3 to 4 foot stepped drop near the I80 bridge. Fencing makes that nonportageable. For those wanting to avoid that one, make the put in the next public access point downriver. The distance to the takeout near the bridge next to Phillips 66 gas station is still about 8 miles. At medium and high water the key is to watch for low bridge clearances. High water may require portaging around respective bridges. While the river at 630 cfs is a class II, there were a couple of class III waves.

Wildlife is abundant along this corridor, including beavers, eagles, mergansers, American white pelicans, Canada geese, red tail hawks, great blue herons, ducks of multiple varieties, and sandhill cranes.

Found this stretch surprisingly fun when we ran it 5-31-2017 at about 750 cfs. Some strange wires near the I80 crossing and a couple of easy fences to watch out for. Put in below dam, take-out at bridge at the Coalville exit.
