River Description
Greg Hynes submits (2006-04-14):
For those living in or around Southeastern Indiana this is a fun run with some fun play spots.
Most of the property along the river (except the Brookville Town Park) is private so please respect.
The put is just below the dam off of Highway 101. (Stay well below the spillway.) Watch for friendly fishermen. You will float down through several riffles and (at high water) class II-III drops. The last of these will be river left, just before the US 52 bridge and the confluence with the West Fork (old cement factory dumping area). This oblique surfing wave is the most fun, but develops into a powerful keeper hole at high flows (lake let down times).
For take out you may wish to coordinate with (and maybe pay an access fee to) Morgans Canoe (on the Whitewater River, after the confluence with the W.Fork).
River Features
Brookville Dam
Put-in. Be mindful of people fishing in the tailwaters.
Mini-Accelerator
The river narrows to about half it's width as it drops over a small shoal. Because of the drop and narrowing, the current is very swift here with crisp eddies on both sides. Great place for catching eddies, s-turns, and ferrying in swift current.
Possible spot for eddyline moves.
Concrete Surf Wave
Some old concrete (maybe?) in the river creates a small surf wave/hole. Ferry over and front surf until you get bored, cold, or cold and bored.
Bridge Rapid
More of a riffle, but still has some eddies and small holes to play in. Go to the right for the best kind of fun.
Morgan's Canoe
Private take out. If it is during their season of operation, check with them before you take out to pay any access fee that they might be charging.

The chute of water to the right at the US-52/IN-1 bridge.
Put-in steps below Brookville Lake
Very swift water and crispy eddies on both sides. Kinda reminds us of the quick water on the Ocoee. Great place for ferries, peel-outs, and general eddyline fun.
Small surf wave/hole near the end of the run. I'm sure it's much different at higher water.
33 degrees F? Yeah, let's go play!
