New Hazards!
On May 20th, 2021 3 wood hazards found
1.) Immediately following the “sneak” down the right shallow channel the river splits a second time. You must paddle the right channel. The left channel has a horrible log jam.
2.) River Wide Log Jam Strainer in fast Current! After Vortex, and 50 yards after the “golf course corner eddy” you run a fast straight chute which leads to a very sharp left hand corner. Giant pine tree is jammed solid in the left hand corner blocking the entire river. You don’t see it till it’s too late! I clawed for life in the willows along the right river bank. Recommend getting out at the “golf course corner eddy” for a portage on river left.
3.) Cottonwood tree is crossing the entire river in the mellow and shallow section about 1/2 mile above Safeway after passing under a low bridge. We were able to paddle over the far left side of the tree at 200CFS. Hopefully the tree doesn’t shift.
Good luck out there! Someone did an incredible job clearing trees this year, but lots of new wood still lines the banks.
