Flat Shoals
GA Route 18 to GA Route 103
Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportThere is a new bridge under construction at Ga 103. (That's why google maps currently shows no bridge existing at all). I looked and unfortunately failed to see a way to carry from the river to the road.
The old bridge has been completely replaced so the gauge at Ga 103 is gone. There's also a gauge at the Ga 18 bridge; it could use some new paint.
This run is best done after some good rain in May, when the shoal lillies are in bloom. Most of the run is flattish, but as the stream nears hwy 103, there is a good, long series of class 2 ledges. --Gary DeBacher
We made this run in March of 2006 after two days of solid rain. We were highly disappointed. We bottomed out numerous times due to sand bars along the first four miles of the run. We spent most of the last mile scraping over rocks. I wouldn't recommend this run unless you know the river is at flood stage.
