Talked to park officials and they said below the dam is federal. They recommend checking water levels before attempting

I've been in the hole at the bottom of the falls, and there is some nasty swirl in there. I know the falls from the bridge down would be a lot of fun to run, but the ban makes sense - there have been people who've put in at the old bridge unaware of the main drop downstream. A couple years ago, some idiot put a rented canoe in high water above the falls - Monroe Co. saved his butt. The state really can't assume liability for the bad apples, so the rest of us are out of luck.

Have you researched if the river really does have a ban? Have brought it to the Attention of anyone at AW?

That stinks. I went hiking there this Xmas and the drops look like a lot of fun. It's almost too bad this section is in a state park, but then again it is a pretty nice state park. It looked at about the same level as the pictures when I was there. With about 2-3 more inches of water the main drop would be pretty intense. A shame that GA State Parks rarely revisit the boating ban decisions. If it's any consolation, I live in NY now and the State Parks here are even worse about that sort of thing.

The rangers told us to leave and not to come back. They said the no swimming sign explained the no boating policy. One dragged me off the river.

How did the rangers leave it with you? Banned or 'displeased?' Displeased I can live with, but I don't want my stuff confiscated. My parents just moved to Griffin, GA which is one the other side of I-75 from this reach. It would be nice to have something fun to do when I visit them! Towaliga is a Creek Indian word meaning 'roasting scalp'!
Splat for sure
The 5' boof on river left looks like Jerrod's Knee

The sign said the locals pronounce Towaliga like this 'Ti-Laggi'.
