River Description
Visual Gauge: Upstream of the Rattling Run putin is a state hwy 2050 bridge. From this bridge looking
downstream you can see a footbridge. The footbridge needs to have water flowing over the top of it for
this run to be at minimum. Check AFWS for rainfall as the area need 1.75' in 24 hours for this to run.
The top of the creek has access issues with the local farmer and with the municipal building on river
left. To avoid these issues it is easier to park at the Roaring Run trailhead and hike down to the
confluence with Rattling Run and then hike up Rattling Run on river left to the putin above Cow Patty
Falls. We took out at the end of Rattling Run where it confluences with Roaring Run, although you
could paddle Roaring Run down to the Kiskimenitas and paddle North a bit to Apollo if you like.
Roaring Run is much less exciting than Rattling, but still quite beautiful.
The first descent on this creek was made on 1/15/07 by Jason Hilton, Jeff Macklin, Jason Miller, Carl
Schneider, and Craig Wassinger.
Rapid Descriptions:
Cow Patty Falls: (III) 6 foot waterfall with a nice clean lip. Great place to learn to boof. Run anywhere.
Hilton Falls: (IV) 17 foot waterfall also with a clean lip. Take the skills learned at the previous one and
apply them here. Paddle behind the falls when you can, it is neat, and you rarely get to be behind a
waterfall without paying for it.
Stay Left: (V-) Technical bolder garden rapid marked by a rusted water tank at the entrance. In the
bottom right is a deadly sieve. On the first descent the rapid was run going right to left and getting on a
slider rock to scoot by the left of the sieve.
Cauldron Falls: (IV+) 14 foot waterfall. The left side ends in rocks and the landing is shallow so donâÂÂt
run this without a lot of volume in your boat. The drop has two pointed flakes in it. The best run is
between the two f
