River Description
in the falls section, i prefer the trail on river right. river left is okay but the section right beside the road is poison ivy choked.
there is a surprise waiting for you if you paddle about 1/2 mile down past the last slide. you will know it when you see it. down there the trail on river left is better than river right, but both are long walks back. hunter and i were disappointed in the short ending the first time we went down there. we got our hopes up seeing the class I-II little pile of rocks right after the last slide...if you have the rest of the afternoon to kill, set shuttle on whatever road comes next and go check it out. i have a feeling there will be something there.

Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportAlthough this page is about the massive falls below the dam, there is a milder fall line section of the Nottoway from cut bank rd bridge to the green church bridge that is also very interesting and longer -- however the experiences don't really compare. The fall line stretch makes an excellent kayak camping trip if you want to do an overnighter and the fishing is decent. Just get past the purdy boat ramp for more suitable banks to pitch a tent on. Out of the fall line and into the coastal plain, the banks get even more sandy if you want to keep on.
we went rock sliding there as teenagers two friends almost drowned but otherwise had lot of fun there

Paddled from the falls to hwy 40 'next bridge' in 2010 found the surprise and a bunch of logs across river. Donnie Edgerton
