On Saturday December 11th 2010 there were about 6 strainers requiring portaging between Pole Bridge road and Tripphammer Falls. Several others could be navigated around at this level, but you have to keep your eyes peeled. Two were fences: one is a dull-yellow and can be limbo'd, while the second is a barbed-wire extension of a (barely) visible fence alongside a curve in the river.

The river is runnable when the island between the two bridges at the takeout is flooded. We ran it a bit higher. At this level Tripphammer could be run anywhere (though there was a sidecurler just above the drop on river left), and Papermill probably only at or near the slot on river right. At significantly higher flows Tripphammer developes strong hydrolic. Regardless, we recommend scouting before running either drop: look for Tripphammer's horizon shortly line after a pipeline crosses the river (seen only be a 50-foot wide straight path of cleared trees on either side of the river), and scout Papermill at the takeout before putting in.
