River Description
This is the biggest tributary stream of Chautauqua Creek. It drops at a screaming 127 feet per mile average. Based on the fact that main Chautauqua Creek's gradient is about half of this, it would be safe to say Little Chautauqua is probably a Class V stream. It will probably take a lot of water though (maybe 1.1 ft on the Brandy Run gauge in PA.) I am going to scout this stream soon to get more details. Hopefully the strainers aren't too bad. One thing's for sure, you will have to know every square inch of this thing if you don't want to die. There may be portages around strainers, undercuts, and insane waterfalls. There are also two tunnels for what appears to be railroad cuts. One of these tunnels is .07 miles in length and appears to drop 110 feet of elevation through the tunnel and into it's gorge according to Google Earth. Maybe the tunnel is very steeply sloped? Seems strange.
