7) Merced Falls to Snelling Diversion Dam
The lip of the dam is only 15 or 20 yards away, but it is completely invisible in this picture and to us at the time. We could only hear it. With only 230 cfs going over the dam, there was no danger to us of being swept over, but with higher flows the danger could be extreme. Inspect this area by hiking from the fishing access parking area, when leaving a take out car. Also check the flows in the Merced near Snelling.
