River Description
A mile of fairly continuous class I-II boulder-bed rapids and a small runnable dam (just upstream of Boldig Road) are highlights of this run.
River Features
Homme Pond / Wittenberg Spillway
At times of high water, some may wish to extend their trip by starting at Homme Pond / Wittenberg Dam. We are unsure of access here; At least some sources suggest this is fenced/gated.
A hydro project exists at this site.
Drainage at this site (as calculated by USGS StreamStats software) is ~71 square miles.
Panic Park
If there is no access at the dam (or even if there is!), an alternative is to access from the interestingly named 'Panic Park'.
Gradient (down to our listed put-in at Hwy.Q) averages somewhat under 10 FPM, and you will encounter mostly good current and occasional class I(II) boulder garden type rapids.
(Former) Gauge Site
The USGS gauge (drainage area = 76.3 sq.mi.) went unfunded in 2006.
Put In
The normal/recommended put-in is at CTH.Q.
Farm Ford
There appears to be a ford (no, not a car or tractor ... a 'drive through') in the stream at this point.
Farm Bridge
Yup, this is Wisconsin Farm county ... another private river crossing ... not certain about clearance here ... obviously may depend upon flow/level. Caution is advised!
Downstream ... it appears there should be some fine class I-II boulderbed rapids.
River Road
(Mostly a 'waypoint' ... possible alternative access/egress.)
Small Runnable Dam
A small runnable dam is one of the (potentially) most difficult/interesting spots on this run. At certain levels, expect this to become 'keepy'. Some levels may provide some play.
Boldig Road
There have been suggestions that it may be possible to park at Boldig Road, either to use this as your take-out for the listed run (knocking off ~1.3 miles of mostly lesser gradient), or ...
At times when the flow is right to make the above-mentioned dam playable (as opposed to nasty/keepy), it may be possible to paddle upstream from here to do a 'park-and-play' of that dam.
Take Out
Our normal take-out is at CTH.J
