In a slightly more close-up view, you may be able to see how the water sheets horizontally across the cement slab of the dam, then pours off the slab into the pool. Air pockets form behind the flow, creating the lighter root-beer colored effect of the falling water before it meets the chaotic churning in the pool below. This 'curtain' of water pouring into such a chaotic 'hole' in the pool virtually never really looks too inviting for any meaningful play. (YMMV)
