River Description

The majority of the distance from Bowman Lake to the South Yuba confluence is not paddled.
(Perhaps because it is overly steep and congested?)

Put in: The section that is commonly paddled is the last 1.8 miles from Artic Mine Road to the South Yuba confluence.
Artic Mine Road is gated a short ways in and washed out beyond the gate.
Boaters can drop equipment at the gate and park a short ways back.
The hike is said to take about one hour to reach the river. The paddling is said to be very high quality and well worth a hike.
From the take out bridge near Washington continue driving upstream for about 1/2 mile, then turn left up the Artic Mine Road, which may not be marked.

Take Out: Maybert Road bridge crosses Canyon Creek just above the confluence with the South Fork Yuba.
Parking is tight so please plan for efficiency.
There is a low head dam just downstream of the bridge.

Getting There: From Nevada City follow Highway 20 about 13 miles to Washington road.
Turn North and drive into Washington then follow Maybert Road upstream along the SF Yuba to Canyon Creek. Expect about a 45 minute drive.
Other routes are available from the East and North.

Artic Mine Road

Distance: 9.2 mi (approx.)
Artic Mine Road

Artic Mine Road seems to be the put in that is actually used for this run, giving 1.8 miles of excellent whitewater.  The road is gated a short ways in and washed out a ways past that, so boaters must hike on the road for an hour to get to the river.  People who have done the run, think it is well worth a hike.

The road and land are private property, but boaters are allowed to hike to the river.
