American Whitewater and the local outfitters negotiated a series of 2 releases in March and 7 releases in late June through August each year. These releases are scheduled, but require dam inflows to be between 3,800 and 12,500 cfs or they will be cancelled and rescheduled, but not beyond the last weekend in August. Releases are between 2,200 and 2,500 cfs, which provides a relatively low flow but enjoyable trip for experienced whitewater boaters. Check https://www.safewaters.com/facility/hawks-nest for details. This protocol might be improved in the future.
