2003 Mason’s Branch Boat Shuttle

August 24, 2003

Announcement from WVRC:

Reminding you that you do not need to carry your boat up the hill from the Upper Gauley takeout at Mason’s Branch.

The annual Gauley River Shuttle begins September 6, 7 and will run until the last weekend of Gauley season October 11, 12. We will be running the shuttle Friday, Saturday and Sunday during Gauley Festival weekend September 19, 20, & 21.

The shuttle is easy for you to use. We have secured a grassy field for you to park in up above Mason’s Branch and when you take out below Sweet’s Falls on river right you load your hard boat on our truck and walk the trail without having to carry your heavy stuff out of the canyon. You pay us $5 for this time honored service and all of your donation directly benefits rivers like the Gauley, New, Cheat and Tygart.

  • We just haul boats – and we only haul hard boats at the land owners request.
  • The shuttle only costs you $5 – the same low price for the past ten years
  • You’ll feel good helping river conservation and your back will thank you too.
  • Our super volunteers are helping us raise needed funds to restore West Virginia Rivers
  • We hope to have the privilege to shuttle your boat this season.
  • The U-Haul truck and volunteers are there from around noon until the last load around 6pm.
  • The people helping out are volunteers so go easy on them.

We are very grateful to Class VI River Runners and Appalachian Wildwater for the land access to run the shuttle and we could not provide the service to boaters without their help. We are grateful to work with American Whitewater on this project. The alliance between AW and WVRC keeps landowners happy, rules enforced, and access open at the takeout, which is on private property. Please be respectful of all guidelines, which ensures access to this great river! There is NO CAMPING, NO LITTERING and NO FIRES permitted on the property at the request of the landowner.
