This weekend, July 6 & 7, marks the second recreational flow release on the North Fork Feather River. If you were able to attend the June release, the schedule is basically the same, except with a lower flow…. 1,200 cfs as opposed to the June release of 1,600cfs. The rapids will be less powerful, but rockier.
The June release went well thanks to the positive attitude of all the boaters and we expect the attendance to only increase as the rest of the state dries up. This only increases the need for boaters on Saturday to USE THE SHUTTLE BUS! Caltrans and the CHP will be actively patrolling the area as the put-in for Cresta is in a very hazardous location between two tunnels on a very busy highway. The put-in location is a no parking zone and anybody attempting to stop there is likely to suffer the wrath of the CHP. On the Friday before the June release two boaters slowed their vehicle while looking at the river and were promptly rear-ended at the mouth of the Grizzly Dome Tunnel…
The shuttle service is not very conducive to rafts so talk with us at the American Whitewater booth, located at the Cresta Powerhouse parking area, and we’ll give you the needed info.
The Sunday shuttle for Rock Creek is under evaluation as we found there were so many different was to access the run … depending on skill level and desire. I’d advise boaters to still utilize the shuttle on Sunday as well. This summer the shuttle is being partially funded by $$ designated for access improvements so our need is to make the shuttle self-supporting.
Please help support the shuttle by donating 5.00 per day!!
In June, we nearly filled both the Cresta and Tobin parking areas so please squeeze in as tight as possible.
Schedule:
Saturday Cresta 9:00am – 4:00pm 1,200cfs
Sunday Rock Creek 9:00am – 4:00pm 1,200cfs
