American Whitewater would like to recognize Karen V’Soske as the November 2002 Volunteer of the Month! For the past four years, Karen has worked closely on the Ocoee River Festival. This year, she not only coordinated the 2002 Festival, but also the TEVA Tour Whitewater National Championships. With tremendous time and effort on her part, she pulled together volunteers and athletes to present a great event that provided widespread local media coverage regarding the loss of water on the Upper Ocoee!

Karen started paddling with her daughter, Erika, 8 years ago, and eventually roped her husband, Mark, and other daugherter, Devon, into it! Living in Ohio has lent itself to much traveling in search of water, and Karen goes, regardless of weather! Not an adrenaline junky, Karen’s perfectly happy having a good time with good friends on some fun class III.

Four years ago, Karen signed up on the web to help with scribing at the Ocoee Festival. In the event’s program that year, Karen was the only person to volunteer to help out with the rodeo, and she did an incredible job! Karen quickly became one of the people that Jayne Abbott couldn’t live without. This year, she stepped up to the plate and took over the coordination of the whole event.

Thanks Karen…you’ve been a huge help and done a great job!
