RE: Site Tour and Public Meeting, January 13th and 14th, 2003

Description of Proceeding: PG&E is hosting a site visit and public meetings for the relicensing of the Poe Hydro Project. FERC staff from Washington, DC will be in attendance to record public comments on the future operation of the project. It is critical that members of the paddling community attend both the site visit and public meetings. Please contact John Gangemi and indicate which meeting you can attend.
How to Participate: The Site Tour will start at 2:00 PM on January 13th at the Poe Diversion Dam on State Hwy 70 near Pulga. The tour is expected to last two hours. The Public Meeting will be held on January 14th at 2:00 PM at the Butte County Library, 1820 Mitchell Ave., Oroville, and again at 7:00 PM at the Best Inn and Suites, 1470 Feather River Blvd., Oroville. The agenda for both Public Meetings will be the same and will include the following:

Description of Whitewater Opportunities at the Poe Reach: The Poe Hydropower Project impacts a 9-mile reach of the North Fork Feather River just downstream of the Cresta run. This reach contains a 4.5 mile Class V section and 4.5 mile Class III(IV) section. American Whitewater’s goal in this proceeding is to augment existing instream flows to a boatable level on a consistent schedule, improve access and secure real-time flow information.
