American Whitewater recognizes Three Rivers Paddling Club, one of our club affiliates, for outstanding involvement and support. TRPC has been involved in numerous ways over the past few months: they played a major role in the success of the 2002 Ohiopyle Falls Race, held a raffle at their January Holiday Party in which all proceeds were donated to American Whitewater, and contributed over $1000 to AW for the Quemahoning Dam Release Project, which will lead to eventual releases on the Stoney Creek River. Perhaps the biggest contribution they have made has been through their education and promotion of AW to their club members. They are striving to reach 100% of American Whitewater memberships among their members – and are well on their way!
Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Three Rivers Paddling Club organizes river trips and other outdoor recreation for the enjoyment of members and their families, promotes safety and improvement of skills through organized instruction, promotes river conservation and recreational access through increased paddler awareness and involvement, and facilitates the exchange of information relevant to paddlers. Their activities include boating trips, a ‘Slippery Rock Clinic’, which typically takes place in early June and consists of paddling instruction, group camping and a buffet dinner. In addition, TRPC offers safety and rescue classes, winter and summer roll classes, and conservation, river access and clean-up programs.
Three Rivers Paddling Club has monthly meetings (except in Dec. and Jan.) on the third Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m. at Botany Hall located next to Phipps Conservatory in Oakland, Pittsburgh, PA. Please visit their website for more information: www.threerivers.org.
