In the summer of 2004, American Whitewater will honor the people who have shepherded whitewater paddling from its infancy as a fringe activity characterized by homemade equipment and backcountry accomplishments into the sport and industry it is today.
The event is set to take place in the Rockies during the summer paddling season. A weekend of paddling, informal get togethers, and seminars will culminate with AW’s 50’s Anniversary Gala. During the evening, attendees will join their fellow river enthusiasts for an elegant evening of cocktails and dinner. Formal wear will be strongly encouraged and sandals will be required. The event will serve as a fundraiser for AW’s future with all proceeds being deposited into AW’s Whitewater Defense Fund. The Whitewater Defense Fund is used for the restoration and preservation of the nation’s whitewater rivers.
AW would like to assemble a team of committed volunteers to help make this once in a lifetime event a reality. We are looking to involve volunteers from across the country, but would like to ensure that we have a strong base of support in the Colordao and Utah regions. I look forward to assembing a diverse group of whitewater enthusiasts who are dedicated to putting on a wonderful party and raising funds for AW’s mission.
