American Whitewater would like to thank the Kayak and Canoe Club of New York, (KCCNY) for receipt of donations totalling over $1,800 during the past two months. These gifts represent a variety of fundraising efforts including ‘match’ challenges by individual KCCNY members Jane Majeski and Jane Bernstein, in support of the long history and current work going on in the New York / New Jersey region.

It was in New York that AW discovered the public’s ability to restore water to rivers that had been dried up (‘dewatered’) for decades by getting involved in the licensing of hydroelectric dams. Since that time and the result of two projects that changed the face of recreationists’ involvement securing flows for recreation – the Black and Moose Rivers – American Whitewater (along with New York Rivers United) volunteers have established a place at the table for the river recreation community in discussion with utility managers and land managment leaders.

KCCNY, whose members are largely from New York and New Jersey, has been integral to AW’s success here and we appreciate your acknowledgment of the importance of past accomplishments and the importance of ongoing efforts on the Mongaup, Saranac, Hoosic, Oswegatchie…and on.

Thank you all.
