“A River Festival with a Musical Flair”

Never in the history of AW’s Gauley Fest has so much effort been put into the “scheduled” entertainment.  In 2004, three bands, the IR Big Gun Show, and the Wave sport Open will grace the Fest’s stage.  Music will start at 4:00 PM and continue until the wee hours of the morning.

Each of the three bands playing the Fest has a direct connection to the whitewater world.

http://www.steepcreek.comWith a name like “Steepcreek” they have to be good. Don’t let the fact that they are based out of Northern New Jersey scare you, these rockers are all good old boys originally from West Virginia. The best part is they share our love of the water. Three of the band members trade in the guitars and drumsticks for a paddle whenever they can.

Steepcreek will be performing Friday night from 8:00 – 10:00 and Saturday from 4:30 – 6:30 on Saturday September 25th.

The Brown Dog Band includes three kayakers and while the core of their sound is based on bluegrass, the Brown Dogs often leak and lapse into a variety of other musical styles.  As the band is composed of young chronic grad students and old guys who want to quit their jobs, they tend to have a lot of fun when they play and hopefully will infect the audience as well.

The Brown Dog Band will also be playing for an intimate audience Friday, September 24th at 10:00 PM and on Saturday September 25th at 7:00 PM.

Headlining the 2004 Gauley River Festival is The Low Life. Formed in 2001, The Low Life is a five piece band based in southern Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. Since its inception, the band’s primary goal has been to create music of varying types in a workshop of ideas where they write/record/produce/design their own albums, using whatever means available to them. This process allows the fan base to grow with the band as it evolves over time. Over the past two years band has produced three albums, the first two freely distributed throughout the country at festivals and through the street team. The third album, Repossess is the band’s first self-produced live recording and is accompanied by a 12-page insert featuring band members’ artwork and fan artwork.
