The 2004 Annual Report is out and it brings both a positive and less than positive message to American Whitewater.
Our work on the ground continues to be successful. From the Cispus in Washington State to the Gauley in West Virginia, from the North Fork Feather in California to the Cheoah in North Carolina…we are currently at some point of negotiationing for access, conservation and stewardship of over 70 projects. This is with five full-time and two part-time staff. We are a lean, yet effective, operation. However, it costs a great amount of money to keep paddlers’ interests on the table when sitting down with utility companies, private landowners, and a variety of agencies.
Now is the time for all AW members to consider additional contributions and to strongly suggest to your paddling friends that they support AW. To all non-AW members who enjoy whitewater rivers, it is time to step up and join the only national organization working for whitewater paddlers. Do remember, AW works across the country for all whitewater kayakers, canoeists, rafters and many other recreationists who enjoy flowing rivers.
