50 years of AW

Welcome to the historical American Whitewater Journal Archive. We are finishing the celebration of American Whitewater’s 50th Anniversary Year with the unveiling of this archive, an online version of the oldest continually published whitewater magazine, the American Whitewater Journal.

Within the pages of this archive you will find the History of Whitewater. The evolution of the sport, from homemade fiberglass boats to today’s hi-tech designs, from before Glen Canyon Dam was built to the first Tallulah releases, and from backyard rain gauges to river level emails. You will also find great stories of travel and adventure written by some of history’s greatest paddlers.

This feature, which will be a member benefit on the website starting in 2005, is currently available to the public to enjoy for the remainder of the year. If you are not currently a member of American Whitewater, or if your membership has lapsed, please Join or Renew to support this incredible resource and gain access to all the member areas of this website.
