From the events organizer, Justyn Thompson:

"As many of you know, the Ledges Park in Asheville, NC has been a whitewater staple for many years. About 12 years ago, kayak slalom gates were put in with the hopes that people would use them and maintain them. However, after floods and neglect, they have turned into more of a hazard and an eye sore than anything else. On the weekend of August 22 and 23, we are going to do our best to remove these out of the French Broad River and clean up Ledges Park! I am looking for volunteers to help with this clean up. If you have any interest in helping us clean this wonderful spot, please contact me ASAP. I am in need of about 20-30 volunteers. We will have a lunch for folks, as well as some other fun stuff planned. If you have gear (rafts, frames, tools, etc) that could be handy, or just good skills to help, please let me know. We have 2 rafts with frames right now. It would be great to have about 5 with frames to transport people and gear out to spots to work on the removal of the gate poles. Thanks for your support!"

Work starts on Saturday, August 22nd at 8am. Lunch is even provided and you’ll get to enjoy some music from Caroline and George Pond of Snake Oil Medicine Show. Very cool.

Full details can be found on the events Facebook page. Don’t forget to RSVP if you can help!
