Financial Donations

To make a personal donation please visit our Donate Page. Checks may be sent to our Executive and Fiscal office, address above.

Stock Donations

Donating appreciated stock to American Whitewater benefits both the donor and whitewater rivers and the donor receives two tax-related benefits. First, the gain on the stock is not subject to capital gains taxes. Second, the donor can deduct the value of the stock as a charitable contribution. If you do choose to donate appreciated stock, please let us know when you send the funds through your brokerage firm. Contact our Engagement Director at bethany@americanwhitewater.org for details.

Cryptocurrency Donations

Individuals or businesses can donate cryptocurrency to American Whitewater through a Giving Account with Fidelity Charitable. Contact our Engagement Director at bethany@americanwhitewater.org for details on setting up an account and issuing a grant to American Whitewater.

Employer Matching Donations

Many employers will match your donations to non-profit organizations. This includes membership payments, as well as additional contributions. Ask your employer if they have a matching donations program.

Combined Federal Campaign

Federal employees including federal civilians, military personnel and U.S. Postal Workers can donate to AW through the CFC, a once a year charitable fund raising program. Look for American Whitewater (Agency #11351) in the official CFC listing of eligible donors.

Donation of Other Assets

A gift of real estate to AW may qualify for a tax deduction based on the property’s fair market value. If it is not a river access point, AW will sell the property and use the proceeds to protect access and restore rivers. Acceptance of property is subject to certain conditions. Interested donors should check with your financial and tax advisors and AW on the feasibility and tax considerations of such gifts. For more information contact our Engagement Director at bethany@americanwhitewater.org for details.

Memorial Funds

Memorial gifts enable donors to establish a meaningful and permanent connection to American Whitewater’s river stewardship efforts. By giving a gift in memory of a family member or friend you recognize and affirm their passion for paddling and the importance of river stewardship. Contributions are welcome through our Donate Page. You’ll see a prompt allowing you to select the ‘In Memory Of’ option and write the name of the person you are honoring. If you’re interested in setting up a larger memorial gift fund please contact Bethany Overfield at bethany@americanwhitewater.org or 1-877-748-3777. Memorial gift funds that support general stewardship projects are most helpful. In special situations, and in consultation with American Whitewater staff, funds can be restricted to specific projects or regions of the country at the time they are established.
