Fla. man drowns while kayaking on N. Ind. river 06-19-10 ROANN, IN: A Florida man drowned when he tried to take his kayak over a dam on a northern Indiana river. State conservation officers say the body of 43-y/o Fred DiGenova was found Sun. (06-20), a day after he was lost on the Eel River near the Wabash Co. town of Roann. Conservation Officer Dan Lackman says the Lutz, Fla., resident who grew up in the Roann area was kayaking with 4 others who decided to carry their kayaks around the dam. When they arrived at the other side, he was nowhere to be found. Lackman says water around the low dam appears calm, but that is misleading because of turbulent water on the downstream side.
