Description

KIROTV Friday, April 12, 2013 Lewis County man dies after canoe capsizes in creek LEWIS COUNTY, Wash. — A man was killed after the canoe he was in with his wife capsized in a creek in Vader Thursday night. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office was called to Stillwater Creek around 8:30 p.m. after a 38-year-old woman called 911 saying their two-man canoe overturned in the creek in the 1400 block of State Route 506 and her husband was missing. The woman reported she was able to make it to the creek bank and last saw her 57-year-old husband hanging onto the canoe near the bank before he disappeared. She said they started off in the molded plastic canoe near their home in the 100 block of Brim Creek Road and had planned to canoe to the Brim Creek Bridge. The Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from both Lewis and Cowlitz counties launched a search and eventually found the man’s body face-down in the creek against a log 100 yards upstream from where the canoe was found. The water’s temperature was 43 degrees. Neither the victim nor his wife were wearing life jackets and there were none in the canoe.
