Description

Sandy, UT couple drown in Jordan River Erin Alberty, The Salt Lake TribuneUpdated Aug 2, 2010 03:19PM A Sandy couple drowned while kayaking Sunday afternoon in the Jordan River. Kelly and Joseph Glasser were paddling from 11400 South with a friend about 4 p.m. when they reached a small waterfall under a bridge at 6600 South, said Murray fire spokesman Russ Groves. The Glassers, who were in rigid, sit-inside kayaks, were sucked into the undertow, Groves said. The third man, who was in an inflatable kayak, had made his way through the falls and went back for his friends, Groves said. When rescuers arrived, the man had pulled Joseph Glasser, 49, from the water and was performing CPR, Groves said. A crew used a network of ropes to retrieve Kelly Glasser, 51, from the river. Both of the Glassers were not breathing and had no pulse, Groves said. They were taken to Intermountain Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead early Sunday evening. All three paddlers were wearing personal flotation devices, Groves said. It was the first time they had floated the Jordan River, he said. Copyright 2010 The Salt Lake Tribune. All rights reserved.
