Deputies said Johnathan M. Kennedy, 40, was on the shore when his kayak overturned. Kennedy, who was wearing a personal floatation device and helmet, fell into the water at the time his kayak overturned, officials said. Several kayakers on the river in the same area tried to rescue Kennedy, but were unsuccessful, authorities said. Kennedy was eventually pulled from the river and paramedics performed CPR, but Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene.
