Set Weather ANN ARBOR NEWS Missing kayaker found dead on Huron River, 1.5 miles from where she disappeared Jun 4, 2018 By Nathan Clark DEXTER, TWP., MI – A woman who went missing while kayaking on the Huron River last week was found dead Friday evening, 1.5 miles from where she disappeared. Robin Early, 36, was found dead at about 6 p.m., June 1, in the Huron River near the southern end of Hudson Mills Metro Park, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Derrick Jackson said. Early got on the river at about 3 p.m., May 31, near the Portage Lake dam and did not return home, leading her family to call police, Jackson said. Police located her car parked near the launch point and later found her kayak in the river overnight. Early was not wearing a life vest though one was found in her kayak when it was recovered in the river, Jackson said. A GoFundMe page created by Early’s family states she’s married with two children and loved kayaking and fishing on the river. As of 10 a.m., June 4, the page has collected more than $20,000 in donations to cover funeral and future expenses for her family. The dam is about 10 miles northwest of Ann Arbor. Rescue crews are currently on scene searching the waters near the dam for the kayaker, Washtenaw County Sheriff Sgt. Eugene Rush said. The kayaker, a 36-year-old woman, got on the river at about 3 p.m., May 31, near the dam and did not return home, leading her family to call police, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derrick Jackson said. Police located the woman’s car parked near the launch point and later found the kayak in the river overnight, Jackson said. A Michigan State Police helicopter is assisting in the search, Jackson said.
