Microburst on the Lower Youghiogheny River (PA) The storm that just went through Washington and Fayette Counties strengthened to a Microburst in Ohiopyle. There are many trees down and cars damaged. There are no reported injuries so far. Cucumber Falls trail is closed. Other areas with damage. Rescues are in progress. Many roads are closed through Monday pm. Christine Isik on FB: Yesterday we were on the river for Jeff Barney UPBEAT MEMORIAL FUN PADDLE when a storm suddenly came through and was at least a microburst. It flipped Scott and I right out of our raft in flat water and sent the raft spiraling through the air. There were trees snapping in half all around us and we couldn’t see in any direction to even tell where shore was or where boulders were to get out of the water. Other rafts were flipped and kayakers were even flipped over. This was an isolated issue as we didn’t seem major damage much further up or down stream. Huge trees came down all around us. It happened between Camel Walrus and Piddily rapids.
