New Mexico’s own whitewater boating competition will hold its 68th installment this Mother’s Day in Pilar, NM. The Mother’s Day Whitewater Races (MDR) include competitions inviting kayakers, rafters, canoeists, and pack rafters to join us on our famous Rio Grande. Festivities start May 8 with an evening welcome potluck and river side campout at Rio Bravo Campground. May 9 is competition day, when competitors and their favorite boats hit the water for surfing, slalom, and down river events. We get together that night for a dinner and hangout finding out who won ribbons and prizes from our day out on the river. Boaters are invited to campout at Rio Bravo with us after the party Saturday night, and Sunday morning is a great opportunity for boaters to connect and paddle together in the gorges of the Rio Grande.
