Non-Witness Narrative by (name not provided) on 2006-06-28 (okay to publish): Near drowning. The raft went sideways through the rapid and turned over. We were caught under the undercurrent and the raft being impossible to emerge. After swallowing a lot of water and near drowning the water moved the raft and we were able to emerge between 2 sits having a small gap to breath but we were still drowning and couldn’t breath. In a desperate last move my husband was barely able to pull us out from under the raft. We kept rolling down the stream until we were able to hold onto a rock. We had no experience in white water rafting along with no sufficient instructions by the guide. We also were not informed about the levels of difficulty that exists in white water rafting, if so we wouldn’t have chosen a level IV river. We have hematomas throughout our bodies and also the mental trauma.
